The College of Law at the University of Al-Qadisiyah places great emphasis on water management as part of its sustainable development framework, recognizing the vital importance of conserving and efficiently using water as an essential resource for both academic life and the environment. The College has adopted a comprehensive policy aimed at achieving optimal water use through modern technologies and innovative systems for recycling, storage, and sustainable irrigation.
The College applies an effective water conservation mechanism in its gardens and green areas by using modern sprinkler irrigation systems instead of traditional surface irrigation, resulting in a significant reduction in the amount of water used for landscaping. This initiative is one of the College’s most prominent practices in preserving natural resources and promoting sustainability in managing green spaces within the campus.
As part of its infrastructure development, the College has implemented a comprehensive upgrade of its water and sanitation systems, replacing outdated fixtures with new, efficient faucets designed to reduce waste and prevent excessive consumption. Additional handwashing and sanitation facilities were also installed during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure a safe and hygienic environment in line with public health standards.
Among the College’s notable initiatives is the establishment of a small water filtration and recycling tank, designed to treat used water for reuse in irrigating green spaces. This measure aims to maximize water efficiency and reduce dependence on external water sources, representing a practical step toward sustainable and cost-effective environmental management.
Through these measures, the College of Law at the University of Al-Qadisiyah has laid a solid foundation for efficient water resource management consistent with international GreenMetric indicators. This reflects the College’s firm commitment to applying sustainability principles in every aspect of its infrastructure and daily operations. Water conservation has thus evolved from being a simple environmental practice to becoming a deeply embedded institutional culture—one that embodies the College’s awareness of its social and environmental responsibilities and its ongoing effort to serve as a model for sustainable water management among Iraqi universities.
