The College of Law at the University of Al-Qadisiyah places great importance on sustainable transportation as part of its broader sustainable development framework, recognizing the significant impact that transportation systems have on carbon emissions and air quality within the university campus. The College has adopted a set of policies and measures aimed at reducing the use of private vehicles and promoting environmentally friendly modes of transportation—such as public transit and walking—to foster a clean and healthy campus environment in line with international GreenMetric indicators.

To minimize dependence on small private cars, the College has designated a coaster bus to transport students between university buildings and external parking areas. This initiative effectively reduces traffic congestion and emissions generated by individual vehicles and forms part of the College’s broader policy to reduce its carbon footprint and encourage students to use collective and eco-friendly transportation within the campus.

The College also features a covered and well-organized parking area designed to maintain order and prevent vehicle congestion within the campus. Parking spaces are deliberately kept limited to encourage walking or the use of university shuttle services. In addition, traffic signs and directional indicators have been installed throughout the internal roads to regulate vehicle movement and prevent random parking near academic and administrative buildings.

Particular attention has also been given to pedestrian pathways, which have been developed into clean, tree-lined walkways that encourage walking between classrooms and facilities. These pathways are equipped with adequate lighting to ensure comfort and safety for students and staff during evening hours. Such enhancements have given the campus a calm and environmentally pleasant character, contributing to improved quality of life and fostering a culture of quiet, non-polluting mobility.

Through these initiatives, the College of Law at the University of Al-Qadisiyah reaffirms its strong commitment to applying the principles of sustainable transportation and reducing carbon emissions—not only by improving infrastructure but also by encouraging behavioral change and enhancing environmental awareness among students and staff. In doing so, the College serves as a model for Iraqi universities in achieving a balance between mobility convenience and environmental preservation, embodying in practice the concept of a green university that safeguards both human health and the sustainability of nature.
